June 10, 2007 (LBO) – Sri Lanka is on the brink of the dangerous path of petrol and diesel rationing, which will give set amounts of subsidized fuel to users, reports said. Related Story

Updated The weekly Nation newspaper said the government has already appointed a committee to come up with a rationing system, which is due to meet on Monday.

“A special committee to examine the possibility of implementing this new scheme has already been appointed under Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake’s chairmanship,” the Nation said.

“According to the new scheme all consumers will be offered a limited quantity of fuel per month at a fixed price. If the consumers burnt more than this limit of fuel offered through a ration card, then they would be forced to purchase fuel paying a higher price.”
