Sri Lanka Ports Authority says vessel calling boosted by 12.7-pct in H1 2015 at Colombo Port
Aug 07, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka Ports Authority says the Colombo port has continued to meet the challenges in the maritime sector successfully and two new main shipping lines started using the Port this year.

During the first six month of this year the number of vessels calling at the port has increased by 12.7 percent and the cargo tonnage has increased by 2.

Container handling has also increased by 6.

“The infrastructure is being developed significantly and much is being done to improve the welfare of the employees.
Plans are being implemented to increase productivity.” Ports Authority said.
The Authority celebrated its 36th anniversary on 01 August 2015.
A special function was held at the ‘Sri Sambuddajayanthi Chaithya’ Premises in commemoration of the event with the initiative of the Ports and Shipping Minister Arjuna Ranathunga.
Speaking at the occasion the Chairman of Sri Lanka Ports Authority Dr.
Lakdas Panagoda stated that the effort and the commitment of the employees in fulfilling their tasks was greatly appreciated.
“We are very pleased that the SLPA, with the dawn of 2015 has been able to increase the salary of employees by 15 percent with an additional allowance of 9,000 rupees.
” Panagoda said.


Not sure though if the occasion is timed to show the electorate what the new administration has achieved. Then, the Chairman is violating election rules, probably the law. Further, SLPA has to show what the current administration has done differently to claim the credit if not it looks like the increase in business due to roll on positive effect of previous administration.
