Dr. Radhika Coomaraswamy appointed to the board of John Keells Holdings (JKH)
October 1, 2018 (LBO) – Former Under Secretary General of the United Nations Dr.
Radhika Coomaraswamy has been appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Sri Lanka’s largest conglomerate John Keells Holdings (JKH).
Global Diplomat Dr. Coomaraswamy served as UN Under Secretary General and Special Representative of the Secretary General on Children and Armed Conflict from 2006 till her retirement in 2012.
For the last 3 years, she has been serving as a member of Sri Lanka’s Constitutional Council, whose 3 year term recently lapsed. Appointment to the board of JKH suggests that she will not take up a seat in the next constitutional council that is due to be appointed.
Dr. Coomaraswamy has spent some time at IV league universities, attaining a B.
A. from Yale, an LLM from Harvard and a Doctorate in Jurisprudence from Columbia. She is currently a Global Professor at New York University’s school of Law.
Dr. Radhika Coomaraswamy is the sister of Central Bank Governor Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy, who also coincidentally served in the past as an Independent Non-Executive Director of JKH.
John Keells Holdings is Sri Lanka’s largest listed conglomerate with a market capitalisation of just over USbn.
The current board of directors consists of: Susantha Ratnayake, Krishan Balendra, Gihan Cooray, Ashroff Omar, Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, Amal Cabraal, Nihal Fonseka, Premila Perera and Dr. Coomaraswamy.
