Preparation for Northern Investment Summit 2026 Gathers Momentum

The first ever Northern Investment Summit (NIS), a national milestone, is scheduled to take place in Jaffna on January 21 and 22, 2026 at the Thiruvalluvar Cultural Centre.

Organised by the Management Club (TMC), the two-day event themed ‘Empowering Growth, Driving Innovations’ will be a platform for promoting the northern province as an attractive destination for foreign and local investment. By facilitating dialogue and partnerships, the Summit seeks to ignite initiatives that will build a self-sustaining, inclusive, and resilient economy for the region.

TMC has teamed up with numerous leading institutions including the Ministry of Industries (MOI), Northern Governor’s Secretariat and Local government offices, Industrial Development Board (IDB), Board of Investment (BOI), Export Development Board (EDB), Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), Industrial Development Board (IDB), Small Enterprises Development Division (SEDD), National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA),Urban Development Authority (UDA, Northern Region), National Chamber of Exporters (NCE), Northern Universities of Jaffna, Vavuniya, Kilinochchi and many others, to ensure a successful outcome.

Key high-potential sectors to be highlighted during the summit will include: Agriculture & Fisheries; Tourism & Heritage; Education & IT; Renewable Energy; Healthcare; Exports; and Startups & SMEs.

The summit program will focus on topics such as Why invest in Sri Lanka: Why the Northern Province?; How to Invest: Opportunities, Processes and Benefits; and Where to Invest District-wise. Leading experts will present and guide the panel discussions and the sessions will be conducted in English and Tamil to ensure effective communication among participants. More than 400 delegates are expected to attend, representing a wide spectrum of stakeholders.

NIS 2026 is a pivotal move to showcase the Northern Province as a strategic investment gateway, connecting South Asia to the global market and positioning the region as a hub for sustainable growth and economic transformation.

According to Shanthi Bhagirathan, Deputy Chair NIS, “The Northern Investment Summit 2026 is not only an investment platform but also a catalyst for rebuilding, empowering, and unlocking the Northern Province’s potential for the decades ahead. We aim to foster economic growth while preserving the cultural and natural heritage of the region, and to uplift livelihoods, create employment opportunities, and empower women and youth.”

TMC plans to make the summit an annual event and establish a Northern Investment Desk to support investors with information and facilitation.
