Sri Lanka spent Rs22mn for Yoshitha Rajapaksa’s naval training: Karunathilake

Jan 26, 2016 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s government has spent over 22 million rupees for the foreign scholarships and training obtained by ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s son former naval officer Yoshitha Rajapaksa, Chief Government Whip Gayantha Karunathilake alleged in Parliament.

On behalf of the defence minister, Karunathilake said that Lieutenant Y.

K. Rajapaksha was recruited to the Sri Lanka Navy in 2006 without considering required educational qualifications.

Karunathilake further stated that Lieutenant Yoshitha Rajapaksa has participated in various foreign trainings during the period from 2007 to 2010 conducted in UK and Ukraine using government funds.

“Disciplinary action will be taken against him according to the report of the Navy tripartite committee that investigated the allegations leveled against him,” Karunathilake said.
