John Keells CG Auto responds to BYD vehicle claims, Reaffirms compliance and transparency

In response to recent public discourse surrounding a consignment of BYD electric vehicles held at Sri Lanka Customs, John Keells CG Auto (Pvt) Ltd (JKCG Auto), the official distributor of BYD in Sri Lanka, has issued a statement clarifying its position and reiterating its full compliance with all local regulatory requirements.

The situation involves select BYD vehicle models recently imported into the country. Concerns have been raised regarding the motor power specifications of these units, prompting scrutiny from authorities and speculation across media and social platforms.

JKCG Auto confirmed that it is currently in active discussions with the relevant government agencies to address the issues and has already submitted all required technical documentation to support the case.

“Contrary to some of the narratives circulating online and in the media, the vehicles in question are 100 kW models, as officially rated by BYD China,” the company stated. “These models are identical to those sold in international markets such as Singapore.”

JKCG also clarified that the motor power of the imported vehicles has been validated by test reports from BYD and independently certified by a third-party testing agency.

“As a responsible corporate, we want to reassure our customers and stakeholders that all vehicle imports have been carried out in accordance with the applicable laws and standards in Sri Lanka,” the statement added.

While the matter remains under discussion, the company emphasized its commitment to transparency and cooperation. JKCG Auto assured that it will continue to keep customers and partners updated as the situation evolves.

The development comes at a time of growing consumer interest in electric vehicles in Sri Lanka, with BYD emerging as a prominent brand in the segment. JKCG Auto’s response aims to ease uncertainty and reinforce trust among both regulators and the public.
