Nine Direct Flights to Bring Tourists from Moldova to Mattala This Winter, Says Former Ambassador

Vision Air has finalized plans to operate nine direct flights from Moldova to Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) this winter season, according to Udayanga Weeratunga, the former Sri Lankan Ambassador.

According to him, this strategic flight schedule is expected to bring approximately 1,500 tourists to Sri Lanka. The first flight, designated as 4 V-5363, is scheduled to arrive at Mattala from Chisinau, the capital of Moldova, on December 27th. These flights will be operated using Boeing 737-800 aircraft from the Ukrainian airline SkyUp.

The international travel agency “Join UP” is responsible for bringing the tourists to the country, while “Delux Holidays” will manage all facilities and ground arrangements within Sri Lanka.

Despite the closure of all airports in Ukraine due to the ongoing war, the majority of Ukrainian tourists are scheduled to travel to Sri Lanka from Chisinau, as noted by Weeratunga.

Moldova, an Eastern European nation that gained independence in 1991 following the collapse of the Soviet Union, serves as a key transit point with its population of approximately 2.4 million.
