June 18, 2008 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s national cricket team captain Mahela
Jayawardena has gone online with information technology company
Cryptodyne to communicate with the island’s youth and raise funds for
a cancer hospital project. “The most important thing for me was to communicate with younger
kids,” Jayawardena told LBO at the inauguration of his website mahelajayawardena.lk in Colombo.

“I have been communicating with a lot of kids with their cricket
problems, technical things and how they want to improve. That was huge
for me because I did not have that direct link with those kids
(before).

“The other important thing was to raise funds for my charity which is
the whole cancer hospital project; there is a direct link from my
website for that.”

Jayawardena said the aim is to give free medical treatment for cancer patients.

The cancer treatment unit which is under construction is situated
within the compound of the Cancer Hospital in Maharagama in the
southern outskirts of Colombo.

“We started construction one and a half years ago and the building has
come up a bit and we are raising more funds; it is not an easy thing
to raise funds in
